September - 2013 - San Gennaro Feast/Carnival
On September 5-8 Montville UNICO Foundation will again present the SAN GENNARO FEAST/CARNIVAL. It will be held In Montville on at 90 Horseneck Road, behind the Montville Library. The original festival was started by Italian immigrants from Naples, Italy wishing to honor their patron saint, St. Gennaro. Continuing the tradition, Montville UNICO will celebrate Italian culture and food with 4 days of rides, games, food, live entertainment, a mega 50/50, and more. Festivities will be held on Thursday at 6pm-10pm, Friday 6pm-11pm, Saturday 12 noon-11pm, and Sunday 12 noon-6pm. Parking is available on site. This is a family event with the proceeds going to continue our 20 year funding of educational grants, community services, disease research, aiding the disabled, holiday donations of food, gifts and clothing, and much more.

August Annual Golf Outing
On August 19 Montville UNICO held its annual golf outing at the Brooklake Country Club Golf is $300 all inclusive. The shot gun was at 12:30 PM. The program included brunch, cocktail hour and a gourmet buffet dinner. The dinner show featured comic John Pizzi. Dinner and show was $100. Hole sponsoring @$150. Outing sponsor @ $500. Major sponsorship@ $1,000.


National Convention July 30-August 4, 2013
The annual UNICO National Convention was held at the Harbor Beach Marriott in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. As they have for the past 25 years, Montville UNICCO sent a delegation. At the convention the Montville UNICO Chapter was recognized as the Model UNICO Chapter. Credit goes to our outgoing president Michael Maddalena for this achievement. Another plus for the Montville Chapter at the Convention was Paula Varsalona Marino receiving the prestigious Cianci Humanitarian Award


June 30, 2013 – Scholarships
In June we awarded: Three $3,000.00 scholarship which included an Italian Studies grant to a student in Montville High School and two Educational Grants to students in Parsippany High School. Gene Maddalena and his committee did an outstanding job.


June 20, 2013 – Comedy and Cigar Night, 7PM-10:00 PM
This was UNICO’s first program for a specific night for comedy to be then followed by a cigar smoking session in a separate area for the smokers. Following dinner, the comedy program was provided by John Pizzi, a ventriloquist-comedian, at Maggie Moore’s in Lincoln Park. There was non-stop shrieking and laughter throughout the performance. The attached photos give you a glimpse of Pizzi’s antics. The night ended and everyone recovered and relaxed in the closing cigar-smoking session.


May 11, 2013 – Dinner Dance
Our 24th Annual Dinner Dance held on May 11, 2013 at Ravelo’s in East Hanover. Dance music and songs were provided by the band “Mirage”. The ceremony included induction of the new officers and the awarding of “The Person of the Year” to Mickey D’Addato. Everyone had a good time and the dinner dance was viewed as a great success. A special thanks to our members and sponsors who contributed and attended the affair.


March 26, 2013 – St. Joseph Dinner At the Montville UNICO general meeting
A special program to celebrate St. Joseph Day (March 19) was presented by Tutty Giordano. The program featured a short description of the St. Joseph Festival followed by a traditional harvest bread display. The subsequent dinner was a complete savory success.


February 26, 2013 – Donation to Montville Kiwanis for Food Pantry
In keeping with our policy to assist noteworthy organizations who help needy families, Montville UNICO made a donation to Montville Kiwanis at our general meeting in February.


January 27, 2013 –Gourmet Café Dinner
A dinner fundraiser was held at the Gourmet Café on Baldwin Rd. Parsippany with over 40 participants. This is becoming an annual affair because of the success of previous dinners.


December, 2012 - Christmas packaging for the needy
Montville UNICO continued its annual effort to make the Holiday season less painful for local families in need by providing toys for children, clothing allowance for children and Shop Rite gift cards for the entire family.


December 2, 2012 – Christmas Party
Our annual Christmas party was held at Bruschetta’s on Passaic Ave., Fairfield. The program chairman Benny Catanzariti arranged for a program of dinner, dessert, wine, beer and coffee. Merry Christmas was wished to one and all.


November 17, 2012 – Turkey 4 U Program
Also continuing our annual food donation, in conjunction with the Turkey 4 U volunteers, over 1200 turkeys were distributed to community churches, food banks and local needy families who also received additional food items to complete a Thanksgiving dinner.
